At the end of day 11 I've managed a fairly creditable 30 755 words. Now, I'll be honest with you - not every word is golden fairy dust just waiting to be read and savoured like a fine wine. (Much as I'd like it to be perfection, and my editor - love her!!! would fall at my feet and offer me a multi-million dollar contract - though I can dream!!) Actually to be honest, I think there's more than my fair share of dross in there.
But I was looking for a motivation picture today, something to share with my co-conspirators in the challenge. Something to make us charge our imaginations so that when the writing gets tough, we don't give up. And, I'll share it with toward the bottom of the page.
Anyway, after I read it, I contemplated the words.
There weren't some kind of deep buddhist sentiment, but they meant something. They reminded me that this month is all about getting those words on paper, so I'd have something to shape.
You see, 50K30day is NOT about writing perfection the first time. I challenge anyone to say that their first draft is beautiful and ready to publish! What it is about, is about setting the first layer, a bit like a house foundation. If you don't have a foundation, the house won't stand the test of time. (Yes I know a good foundation is a hundred percent better than a shoddy slapdash one)
So if you've girded your loins and embarked on 50K30day, congratulate yourself. Sure you'll need to edit it. It may even take a while, but you know what? You'll have that first layer ready to start.
Oh and it's also a good way to beat the procrastination bug!
