To the blog:
Other worlds are so much fun to build. I mean, think about it at night when I head out to take the dogs for their final run. The vast expanses of inky blackness and the diamond bright shimmer of starlight. What is it like on other planets? The sky might not be blue, or the grass an interesting shade of violet. I enjoy writing Science Fiction Romance because it allows me to consider, think and ponder over the multitudinous ways our world might differ from another planet. Do these planets have more than one moon? Who might live there? Will we be the first to step on an ancient planet where the indigenous species has died out?
The question of why has to be asked as well. Did we travel to a new planet because Earth is dying? Is there an overly abundant population? What set the scene for our need to colonise?
What time frame are we considering? Near future? I had the opportunity to play with a near futuristic storyline in Hesparia's Tears when I set a world where the women were dying out, and because of the genetic pre-disposition of earth's women was essentially the same they came to create a bond... Or was it because of the need to learn to be more human? Less rigid in their controls? Why would we make contact with another race and species? So many questions and no answers!
For a long time I devoured the works of Anne McCaffrey, you get a feel for her sense of world building with the Pern series, the Talent saga, the Catteni Sequence and even the Crystal Singers. These are the books were my primer as an adolescent. This is where my love of world building really began. With each book that releases, I have the opportunity to thank this wonderful lady for her insight and creativity, because I believe it sparked mine. Another amazing author who inspires me is Linnea Sinclair. Her work in the area of world building brings a richness that feed the hunger of my mind!
The detail she includes is right down to the minute intricacy of language, clothing and social hierarchy, which is evident in the Dock Five universe.
Now, as you can see, I have a number of Science Fiction books that require me to have a firm hold on world building. As a thank you I'm going to give away a copy of either Hesparia's Tears or the Reunion Series (Complete) in PDF to a (one) commenter.
